Greenville Recreation Department, Overton's, Consumers Marine and NC Sportsman Offer Fishing Seminars If you would like a few pointers to make your coastal fishing more fun and productive, these seminars will be just what the doctor ordered. The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department, Overton's and Consumers Marine have teamed with North Carolina Sportsman Magazine to host a Saltwater Fishing Seminar on Tuesday, April 29 at the Walter L. Stasavich Nature Center at River Park North, 1000 Mumford Road, in Greenville. The evening will begin with a session on inshore saltwater fishing for speckled trout, red drum and flounder. The inshore session will be taught by Captain Ray Massengill of Down East Guide Service, which operates in the Pamlico Sound and Cape Lookout areas. Massengill brings years of experience and tips on the latest lures, baits and techniques to the program. After the opening session, participants will be treated to food and refreshments courtesy of Overton's and Consumers Marine. During this time the instructors will be available for informal questions and all the participants are invited to socialize with each other. The final session will feature king mackerel fishing and will be taught by Capt. Jerry Dilsaver. Dilsaver is a Staff Writer for North Carolina Sportsman Magazine, 2001 Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) National Champion, 1998 US Anglers Association (USAA) Angler of the Year and July 2007 inductee into the SKA Hall of Fame. His knowledge of king mackerel is vast and includes numerous insights into the location and feeding preferences of these fish. Both sessions will include information on equipment, tackle, rigging and locations for catching these popular coastal saltwater fish. It promises to be an evening chock full of invaluable fishing tips and tactics. The timing is perfect to allow aspiring anglers time to practice what they learn during the spring, summer and fall fishing along the Carolina coast. The seminar will begin at 6:30 and wrap up about 9:00. There is an advance registration fee of $20, which increases to $25 the day of the seminar and at the door.
